Little Charlotte is in good company – her name is the most popular for baby girls across the nation so far this year.

According to data collected by research and communications company McCrindle.com.au, 1673 girls born in Australia this year have been named Charlotte.

Most popular boys name is Oliver, with 2134 babies given the moniker this year.

Charlotte, right, of Wyndham Vale, was born on February 28. She is a little sister to proud big brother Seth, who is six years old.

Their mother Kristie said it was only after deciding on the name Charlotte that their family discovered they have a historic link to the name.

“It is an old family name linking us back to the Second Fleet where one of my relatives, a great-great-great-grandmother, was also named Charlotte,” she said.
