Police have charged a man and impounded his car following an investigation into an illegal hoon event in Truganina last month.
Police said a group of spectators watched on as cars performed burnouts on the road at an illegal meet-up in Permas Way on July 17.
A search warrant was executed in Cobblebank last night and a 26-year-old from Melton South was arrested.
A Holden Commodore sedan was seized, along with phones and electrical equipment.
The man was charged with multiple counts of reckless conduct endangering persons, drive in a manner dangerous, careless driving, unlicensed driving and using an unregistered vehicle.
He was remanded overnight to appear before Sunshine Magistrates Court today.
The arrest was part of Operation Achilles, a statewide operation targeting hooning and other instances of intentional high-risk driving.
Senior Sergeant Dean Pickering said that police “are actively targeting people engaging in hoon-type driving, particularly occurring in industrial areas across north and north-western suburbs including Truganina, Ravenhall, Campbellfield, Tullamarine and Thomastown”.
“These events usually involve large groups of spectators standing on the road watching others doing burnouts,” he said.
“The risk of these cars losing control and colliding with ‘spectators’ is very real and may result in serious injury or worse.
“Operation Achilles will continue to target and hold these offenders to account.
“Members will target those that organise these events, participate in these events and also people who attend to watch these events.”
