Awesome business awards

Signwriter Justin Watts often hears the words “that’s awesome” after completing a job.

That praise is embraced in the name of Mr Watts’ Point Cook-based business, Awesigns.

“‘That’s awesome’ is generally the reaction we get – lots of people say it without even knowing,” he said.

Mr Watts said that as well as being an obvious play on words, the name Awesigns was a homage to his mother, whose initials are A.W.E.

Mr Watts started Awesigns in 2015, fulfilling a lifelong ambition to run his own business.

He did work experience with a Bendigo signwriter while in year 10 and left school the next year to take up a signwriting apprenticeship.

“What I enjoy most is just being able to be creative, working with different people and other business owners,” he said.

Mr Watts said that the business provided consultation, signage, branding, installation and graphic design services, mainly to customers in the west but also to other parts of Melbourne.

“Most business comes to us through word-of-mouth, referrals and business networking,” he said.

Mr Watts said he was “amazed and speechless” after a client nominated Awesigns for this year’s Wyndham Business Awards.

“It’s quite humbling,” he said.

Awesigns has been named a finalist in the trade service’s category of the annual competition.

The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony in Hoppers Crossing this Friday.
