Eleven-year-old Point Cook resident Arisha Jain has cut off her long locks to help children with cancer.

Arisha, who is a grade 5 pupil at Alamanda College, last had short hair when she was just one year old.

However, Arisha said she decided to donate her hair to a good cause after coming out the state’s COVID-19 lockdown.

After getting a haircut, she sent her hair to Ella Wigmakers in New South Wales, who will use it to make a wigs for kids with cancer on behalf of Wigs 4 Kids.

“After lockdown my hair had grown quite long, I thought I could donate it to help other children,” Arisha said.

“Wigs 4 Kids uses donated hair to make wigs for children with illnesses like cancer.

“I thought it was a great idea.”

Arisha said she was a fan of her new, shorter hairdo.

“It’s easier to manage, I can comb it more easily and there is not as many tangles,” she said.

Arisha is also on a mission to raise $2000 for the Kids with Cancer Foundation (KWCF), which provides financial support for families that have a child suffering cancer.

The foundation also funds research into better ways to treat cancer.

Arisha has been asking her family and friends for donations, and has so far raised $1110 for KWCF.

‘Together we can make a difference for children with cancer,” Arisha said.

“It can help save lives and it’s a helpful and kind thing to do”
