Wyndham council has received a $110,000 grant to install new accessible restrooms at the Tarneit Community Learning Centre.

Seventeen other grants to build accessible restrooms have been allocated to councils and organisations across Victoria under the state government’s Changing Places program.

The initiative aims to boost the number of fully-accessible public restrooms throughout the state, with facilities including adult change tables and hoists.

Disability, Ageing and Carers Minister Anthony Carbines said the grants would allow more freedom of travel for those living with disabilities.

“These new Changing Places will open up even more of Victoria, allowing people with disability to enjoy the best our state has to offer,” Mr Carbines said.

”Changing Places make a real difference in people’s lives by removing barriers to getting out and about – whether close to home or at major tourist sites.”

Greater Geelong City Council has also received a grant to install a restroom at the Rippleside Inclusive Playspace.

The Royal Geelong Yacht Club has received a grant too.

Melton council has received two grants, to install restrooms at Caroline Springs Leisure Centre and Melton Waves Leisure Centre.

The first restroom funded by the Changing Places program opened at Ringwood Lake in 2014. Details: changingplaces.org.au/
