A short film starring young Wyndham actress Mariah will screen at a Sydney film festival this week.
Mariah, 11, spent three days filming The Passage of Flick earlier this year.
The movie will be shown at the Joy House Film Festival at the Hoyts Mandarin Centre in Chatswood this Sunday.
The artistic director and founder of the festival, Joy Hopwood, described Mariah as “the actress to watch”.
“Mariah shows great range and is a versatile actress,” Hopwood said. “She’s so talented at such a young age and is an up-and-coming star of the future.”
In The Passage of Flick, Mariah plays a young girl who travels through time, via her wardrobe, to see an older version of herself, portrayed by Monique Fisher.
Mariah was cast in the film after the girl who originally won the role dropped out. The producers and director James Vinson saw Mariah’s profile on a casting website and asked her to send in a video audition, which landed her the part.
Mariah has also appeared in other films and television shows and an ad, in addition to attending the Greentree Acting School in Footscray.
In a few weeks’ time, she will also play the lead role in her school’s entry into the WAKAKIRRI arts festival on September 18 at Hamer Hall.
Mariah said she hoped to continue acting and become a drama teacher, or open her own drama and dance studio.
