Screw down plates, foil the crooks in Point Cook

Point Cook’s Neighbourhood Watch group is trying to stamp out the theft of car number plates.

Chairwoman Sushanthi Don says, on average, 10 plates are stolen from cars in Wyndham each week, mainly from train and shopping centre car parks.

She says new cars and luxury vehicles are often targets, with offenders using stolen plates to avoid detection when committing crimes.

More than 10,400 plates were stolen in Victoria last year and Wyndham was in the top 10 police service areas hit.

This Saturday, at Point Cook Town Centre’s Target car park, from 10am to 4pm, volunteers including Claire Broughton and Sacha Delimitros will fit anti-theft screws for a gold coin donation.
