Tarneit band Unchained Silence dreams of making it big, and this Friday’s Battle of the Bands could be its lucky break.

The rock band is made up of lead singer and guitarist Harley Grieves, bass player Karan Bhabra and drummer Lachlan O’Driscoll.

They have been together for a year and practise at least three times a week.

The year 11 Tarneit Senior College students won their school talent show last year and now they’re keen to get out there and start performing for the masses.

Harley, 17, says the trio will perform some of its own original songs for Battle of the Bands.

“We need to give the world something new,” he said.

“There’s only so many times you can do covers.”

The FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands competition is this Friday from 6-9pm at the Youth Resources Centre, 86 Derrimut Road, Hoppers Crossing.

The supervised event is for people aged 12 to 25 and is drug, alcohol and smoke-free.

Tickets are $10.
